Pledge of Allegiance
The students selected to lead the Pledge of Allegiance for the December Board of Education meeting were Mooresville Middle School students Gavin Arnold, Phoenix Sosa, Padme’ Sosa, Hyden Gibbs, Ryland Robl, Jan Torres-Figueroa, and Caleb Witherspoon. They were nominated by Ms. Wenzl, Ms. Chambers, and Ms. Overcash because they always display the heart of a Red Imp! In the nomination, their teachers said, "Ms. Wenzl’s class was chosen to lead the pledge tonight because they display the heart of a Red Imp all throughout the building. They are kind to one another and are always willing to support each other. They bring joy to every person that they interact with at Mooresville Middle School. Students from Ms. Wenzl’s class are active on the ImpTV morning announcements, work closely with their peer buddies during Imp Time, and are willing to help out around the school in any way needed. While they are in class, they are engaged and try their hardest to complete any task with accuracy. MMS is proud of the work the students in Ms. Wenzl’s class complete on a daily basis, and we are lucky to have them as students at our school."
Board of Education Oath of Office
With family by their side, Mr. Roger Hyatt, Dr. Debbie Marsh, and Ms. Kerry Pennell took their oath of office at the December Board of Education meeting after being re-elected to the MGSD Board of Education in November. Representative John Fraley swore the members into office. The board members then voted to name Mr. Hyatt as chair and Mr. Greg Whitfield as vice-chair. MGSD is fortunate to have such an involved, supportive Board of Education!

We are proudly recognizing Dr. Debbie Marsh, an MGSD school board of education member for being elected to serve on the governing Board of Directors of the North Carolina School Board Association (NCSBA). Her selection came during the delegate meeting of the 2019 annual conference for board member development. The NCSBA Board of Directors establishes the mission and goals for the Association and ensures that NCSBA activities and programs remain focused on these goals. NCSBA officers and directors are the personal communications link between their regions and the Association. Our district is fortunate to have Dr. Marsh on our school board and know that her knowledge of education and advocacy for children will be an asset to the NCSBA. We are proud of Dr. Marsh for this accomplishment!
Above and Beyond the Call of Duty
The MGSD Board of Education honored South Elementary School Teacher Assistant Ms. Christine Beaudoin with the ABCD award at the December Board of Education meeting. Ms. Beaudoin was nominated by South Elementary Principal and Assistant Principal, Dr. Mark Cottone and Ms. Cheryl Dortch who said in the nomination:
"Ms. Christine Beaudoin continuously goes above and beyond the call of duty on a daily basis at South Elementary School. She dedicates her time, patience, and love in multiple ways within our school. Ms. Beaudoin leads instructional groups throughout the day where she helps build confidence with students both academically and emotionally. Ms. Beaudoin has volunteered during many of our late nights, including book fairs and Chick-fil-a nights. She is continuously viewed as a positive and inspirational face within our school. Ms. Beaudoin does everything with a smile on her face and is someone who views problems as opportunities. She goes out of her way to ask and seek ways she can support the teachers she works with while in the classroom. Through the years, Ms. Beaudoin has mentored and worked with our students who need the most support. She currently has a student who is diabetic and she meets his needs by knowing his sugar levels at all times. Ms. Beudoin knows what this student ingested down to how many carbohydrates are in his lunch and what she may need to do so to maintain his level. All of this so that he can access learning like every other child at South. In addition, she is always eager to learn and gain new ideas from professional development opportunities that she can use in the classroom. Her continuous zest and passion for students, learning, and growing has been a tremendous influence on the culture of our school. We cannot think of anyone else who deserves this recognition more than Ms. Christine Beaudoin! We love and appreciate Ms. Beaudoin at South so much!"
Artist of the Month
The MGSD Board of Education recognized the phenomenal artistry of Alex Theodorakatos, Mooresville Middle School 8th grade student. Alex was nominated by his teacher Ms. Jennifer Lindsey who said about Rain:
"There are people in the world that are born with great talents, Alex is one of these people. From computer art to drawing everything he dreams up is amazing. I witnessed his extraordinary ability to quickly understand concepts and then apply them to real world situations. Alex was honored last night at the Mooresville Lions Club as this year’s winner of the “Journey to Peace” poster contest. Besides winning $100 locally, his artwork is moved on to the district level where it also won first place. Now onto state and hopefully worlds! This is a wonderful honor and hopefully will open more doors for Alex and his artwork. His artistic talent and academic accomplishments are rivaled only by her personal strengths. His compassion and personality are beyond his years and he is well-loved by his peers, as well as all those who have the pleasure of teaching him."
