Mooresville Graded School District Board of Education honored their Chief Financial Officer, Ms. Terry Haas, CPA, RSBO, for being awarded the 2019 International Eagle Award Recipient!

The Board stated, "We would like to congratulate and recognize Ms. Terry K. Haas, Chief
Financial Officer for the Mooresville Graded School District. Mrs. Haas is the
recipient of the 2019 International Eagle Award. The International Eagle Award
is the highest honor the Association of School Business Official International
(ASBOI) bestows upon its members for their outstanding accomplishments. It recognizes business professionals who throughout their career and lifetime have demonstrated
excellence in service to their school district, state ASBO, community, and
profession."

The ASBOI had this to say about Mrs. Haas:

“Throughout Ms. Haas’ 30-year career in school business, she has built a
reputation as a steadfast leader who carries out her school business
responsibilities with a personal touch. She is driven by the knowledge that the
more she knows about instruction and the needs for its students, the better able
she is to extend limited funds to meet those needs. Whether it’s ensuring fiscal
integrity within the school district, training and mentoring current and future
school business officials, overseeing her district’s after-school and school
nutrition programs, or helping organizations to be good financial stewards,
Terry has dedicated her career to serving others.”

Ms. Haas will receive the Award at the ASBOI Conference in National Harbor, Maryland on October 25, 2019.

Above and Beyond the Call of Duty

The MGSD Board of Education recognized Ms. Shawna Gallmon, lead teacher for the Before and After School Program at East Mooresville Intermediate School.  Ms. Gallmon was nominated by EMIS Principal Meghan McGrath who stated:

"We would like to nominate Shawna Gallmon for the October ABCD award. Shawna is a
member of the Before and After School team and works at EMIS. As lead of the BASP program at EMIS, Shawna works hard to make sure that the program aligns with our goals at East. She has very high expectations for the students, providing time for them to complete work or read while offering tutoring help. She then plans crafts, projects and most importantly builds in plenty of time for students to play. In addition to her main role at BASP, Shawna is a consistent support to all of our staff. She regularly volunteers her time to help in classrooms and extra events. Everything from staff potlucks to reading incentives, Shawna is one of the first people to ask how she can help. Shawna has also volunteered her time to lead our 6th grade step team. Last year, she led the group to perform at several events, and we are excited to see their routines this year. Finally, one of the most valuable things Shawna does at EMIS is serve as a mentor. She typically mentors two students per year. This includes checking in and out with the student each day, assisting them with work, and being a positive, motivating voice. She takes this role very seriously and is very much a “school mom” to several of our students. She has made such a tremendous impact on several students over the last few years and we are incredibly blessed to have her as part of the team at East."

Ms. Gallmon's mentee, RJ Ramsuer, also came to tell the Board of Education what a difference she makes in his life every day.  Mooresville Graded School District and the children and EMIS are fortunate to have Ms. Gallmon going Above and Beyond the Call of Duty for every child, every day!
